Homestead Division is owned and operated by Peter and Jean Ruh who have been growing hostas for over fifty years.
We are a bare root nursery. All of our plants are grown in raised beds or field rows. We use composted soil, sheep manure, and our own leaf humus to encourage strong growth. We fertilize lightly in mid-April with an organic fertilizer. We are convinced that our growing techniques allow us to offer you strong, naturally grown plants which will readily adapt to your garden.
Our Home is surrounded by two and a half acres of plants, shrubs, and trees that have had years to mature from our original vision. From either side of the house enter a gently sloping maze of walled and terraced beds. View the water garden and stroll along the edge of the woods. You will see the many shapes, textures, and colors of Hosta in individual, natural settings. We hope they will give you inspiration for your garden just as we have nurtured our own landscape by visits to beautiful locations in many countries throughout our gardening lives.
Visitors are welcome to browse through our garden.
Group Tours We are pleased to offer group tours of Homestead Gardens this year for your Garden Club or Seed Exchange.

A minimum of 10 people or more is required with a fee of $5.00 per person.

Each tour will be personally guided by Pete or Jean Ruh and will take approximately 1 hour, after which, all will be welcome to explore the gardens on their own.

At the end of the tour, a 20% discount will be available on all purchases of plants.

Gift Certificates Homestead Division gift certificates are available for both plants and seeds.
Garden Planning Service is available through Homestead Division as well. There is a 10% discount on plants purchased through this service and a fee of $100 for a garden plan. Please contact Janet Ruh
